Positive Behavior Support/Character Education
In an effort to continue to improve our school climate, several staff members at Woodland Elementary School have worked together to form a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Committee. The focus of this committee, and all of the staff at Woodland, is to continue to create a positive school climate that fosters cooperation, academic excellence, safety, respect, and readiness.
Our mission statement is ‘To consistently develop, encourage, and support positive pro-social school-wide behavior that transitions into everyday life’.
The PBS program is a school wide behavior program. Research shows us that students achieve at a higher level when they know the expectations and feel safe. Positive Behavior Support will help us improve both of these. Our plan provides detailed expectations in every area of the school while putting an extreme emphasis on safety, respect, and readiness.
As part of our PBS program, students will also be focusing on character traits. Each month one of the following character traits will be introduced and modeled throughout the building: Honesty, Respect, Citizenship, Perseverance, Responsibility, Self-Leadership, Fairness, Courage, and Self-Control. When a child is consistently exhibiting the character traits, they will receive a Positive Office Referral form and have the opportunity to add their name to our Raider Pride bulletin board by the front office. Students will also be entered into a monthly drawing to be invited to sit at the Raider Pride lunch table once a month during their lunchtime and eat with the Principal.
